In 2006 Nike introduced their newest innovation, the Vapor III.  Crafted with revolutionary technology and materials, this Mercurial Vapor model is often often regarded as one of the best all time.  Find out why below.

The Upper:

• Previously in the Mercurial Vapor I and II, Nike used their NikeSkin technology
• With the Vapor III, Nike introduced the Teijin synthetic material that was lighter, softer, more durable, and easily molded to the foot
• A wonderfully designed upper material combined with the ultra sleek shape and lines made these boots stand out in every colorway

The Sole Plate:

• Nike switched from a one piece plastic sole plate to a newly constructed directly injected bladed stud configuration
• Using less materials with a super durable and lightweight plastic configuration made these boots the lightest Mercurial at the time
• Nike also started to use carbon fiber on the heel cup for extra stability and reinforcement

Notes and Comments:

• This particular colorway remains as one of the most iconic boots ever, made exclusively for R9 in the 2006 World Cup
• Nike would later go on to making over a dozen MV3 signature colorways
• With a lineup full of studs rocking the Vapor III, including R9, Thierry Henry, CR7, Drogba and many more, this was one of the most exciting Mercurial launches ever
• To this day, many regard the look and performance of the Vapor III to be the best Mercurial ever made
